Greatest Movie Franchises Countdown

Over the years, there have been many hit movies and sequels to those movies that have sparked some of the biggest phenomenons of all time. I will go over some of the biggest and iconic movie franchises of all time and I will put them in order of their box office grossings. (I have listed 19 that I think are the greatest) Let us begin. At number 19, is the relatively new franchise, Diary of a Wimpy Kid. In this lame movie series based on its novel, the horrors of middle school is seen through the eyes of scrawny, wimpy teenager Greg Heffley. These films also focus on Greg's dysfunctional family and wacky friends. So far, this franchise has made $165,142,918 worldwide and is one of the lowest grossing franchises of all time. If things keep going like this, the project could be cancelled. Then, at 18, is the infamous crime drama series, The Godfather. In this incredible crime drama, the rise of Don Corleone from immigrant to mobster is followed along with his troubled sons and their take at the family throne. "The Godfather" trilogy garnered 9 Academy Awards and made $249,175,314 at the box-office. Even though this series did weak money wise, its notoriety made up for it and it's now known as one of the greatest crime films of all time. At 17 is the action packed revenge saga Kill Bill, one of my favorites. In this smashing, Quentin Tarantino directed action flick, a woman wakes up from a four-year coma and proceeds to get revenge on the 5 people who put her there, and killed her unborn child. This awesome franchise made $331,066,058 at the box-office and is subject to change in 2014 when the third installment comes to theaters. This happens to be on my must-watch list and I definitely recommend this for any of you adrenaline seekers (which I've already done). The next movie has been around for years and has entertained horror lovers for a decade. Final Destination is found at number 16. In all five films, a teen has a vision that he/she will die with friends in a local tragedy. The teen then saves their friends and the event happens, but Death has a design for each of them. This is a very chilly thriller and has you on the edge of your seat the entire franchise. It has received $477,080,639 worldwide and is one of the longest running horror franchises along with Halloween and Resident Evil. At 15, is the infamous record breaking series The Hunger Games. Even though this series has only made one installment, it is the first movie franchise to receive that much money and publicity for its first installment. This series is set in the near future, where the world is split into districts. Each year, a district sends forth two teenage fighters to compete in the sadistic Hunger Games, where people fight to the death until one remains. This series which was created from the book is very entertaining and broke records as being the third highest opening movie in history with 155 million. The series has already made $686,533,290, but this is subject to change when the second installment hits theaters in 2013. At 14, Marvel's top-selling franchise X-Men rolls in. In the X-Men series, mutants with super-cool powers are featured learning how to use their powers at a special school founded by Charles Xavier, a fellow mutant. These mutants also face saving the world against nationwide threats like mutant armies and the government. This series that founded Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) as a worldwide idol has made $932,903,335 at the box office and this too is subject to change when the new "Wolverine" movie opens next year. Then, at 13, is the best action franchise ever made, The Matrix. The awesome Wachowski brothers produced, wrote, and directed this futuristic sci-fi about a nation in 2199 suffering attacks from life-destroying machines. Then, some people go into this computer generated world where they fight bullet-dodging agents and the police to save the remaining city of the world and defeat the machines. Even though the story line is quite confusing and my description barely helped, the action is awesome and will have you on your knees begging for more. This trilogy has produced $1,623,116,618 and has earned to be in the greatest movie franchises hall of fame. Next, at 12, is the lovable Disney animated franchise Toy Story. In this fun, family-filled animated trilogy, Disney brings us into a world of toys acquired by a boy named Andy that can talk. Throughout the movies, the toys are faced with challenges like being left by their owner because they're broken or stolen by a weird 40-year-old antique collector. Disney has made $1,945,421,813 more and made characters like Woody (voice of two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (voice of Tim Allen) pop culture icons. At 11 is the iconic Indiana Jones series. For over 20 years and 4 gold movies, Harrison Ford has played the temple explorer Indiana Jones. Jones has faced thousands of temples, tumbling rocks, and .....snakes! Over the years, the box-office toppling series has made $1,980,610,580 and has made Harrison Ford into an American idol. That concludes this week's post and tune in next week to find out if your favorite movie franchises made the top ten list in "Greatest Movie Franchises Countdown Part II". Also, I wish for you all to at least look at my new story The Trial at brordon2.blogspot.com.
